What is the book about?
The Littlest Detective in London is the first in a series of 8 books aimed at kids aged 9-12. It's a black comedy and the plot is quite complex. At its core, the book is trying to reunite family members. A little girl's mother disappears, a teenage girl's father is in jail. Further, the book is about the hidden life that children have, that which parents aren't really aware of.
What is the poem about?
Clemmy's mother makes markings on her favourite poem the morning she disappears. Clemmy uses them, sort of like a treasure map, to find her.
Why is the book a good read?
Well, first and foremost I've been told the book is really funny and unputdownable, which is probably what you want in a kid's book. Plus, I feel the characters are believable, although the girls certainly get up to a lot more than your average kids.
Why will parents think it's good?
As the books in the series follow the girls to different countries, I think parents will like the fact that kids are learning about different countries - in a fun way. The first book set in London also contains an excerpt of 'The Littlest Detective in Paris' and the feedback is that kids can't wait to read more of the Paris book, which is great.
What have your daughters got to do with it? Did they write it too?
No, I used my daughters as inspiration for the two main characters, and they appear as the characters in photographs and illustrations for the book. They also sing the song for the book's promo - 'Run'. And eventually they will appear on film as the characters.
What about the YouTube video?
The YouTube video is promotion for the book, but as you can see when you watch it, the girls are really bringing life to the characters. Wait until you see the next video - when 'The Littlest Detective in Paris' is released.
Does your 15 year old daughter really sing the song 'Run'?
Yes, singing is one of her special gifts.
Who wrote the lyrics to the song 'Run'?
I wrote the lyrics, and a fantastic young Australian composer called John Bellamy wrote the music.
Will there be a movie or TV series?
We are talking to a few companies, and I'll let you know.
Is the ebook download the same as the real book?
Yes, it is exactly the same!
When will the Paris book be released?
At the end of 2009.
